Released on the 23rd of September, Antoine Fuqua’s western film, a reproduction of the 1960 version which boasted actors such as Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen, has been questioned whether it is up to scratch.

Starting off serious the film seemed to somehow turn less so throughout the showing and in the end I’m not sure if anyone was left slightly upset at the fact that the majority of the group of seven died. Nothing new there since the original, re-watching the 60’s version every time one of the ‘magnificent’ died I felt a little upset and wanted them to prevail over Calvera (Eli Wallach) the ‘bad guy’, which I can’t really say the same about Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard) who didn’t sell it for me.

The almost no difference from the original made the film almost boring, the two positives about the film was the unexpected death of Chris Pratt (Joshua Faraday) who’s character was representing Steve Mcqueen’s who survived in the original. And the great acting from Denzel Washington who replicated Yul Brynners character over fifty years ago.

So if you haven’t watched the original go watch it before this as it is far better and you can see the the vast difference between them.
